We are currently recruiting Civil Design Engineers with water and wastewater design experience to join our Water Consulting division in Scotland, with opportunities based in Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Stepps.
This role is predominantly related to the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure design projects for Scottish Water and their construction delivery partners.
About The Team
RPS Water Consulting is a team of Engineers, Modellers, and Data Analysts providing Asset Management and Operational Strategy development to our Water Industry clients to support business planning and delivery.
About You
As a key member of the Water Consultancy business, your role as a Civil Design Engineer is critical to helping us deliver great projects for our Water Industry clients.
Your Responsibilities
- Be the lead design engineer on small to medium-size projects, coordinating internal multi-discipline design teams and interfaces with clients and other project delivery stakeholders.
- Create outline and detailed designs, as well as associated construction-ready documentation.
- Generate concise and well-organised design calculations, reports, drawings, and other deliverables.
- Work alongside our project managers and design engineers to provide technical decisions at key design stages for our water and wastewater utility projects.
- Provide technical input into proposals, feasibility-level designs, and optioneering assessments, outline designs, detailed designs, and preparing reports and technical specifications.
- Interact with clients to grasp their specific needs and preferences.
- Collaborate with contractors, the supply chain, and various project stakeholders.
- Oversee or manage design staff, using your knowledge of design processes and excellent communication skills.
- Mentor and support the professional development of junior team members.
- Be a core member of the Water Consultancy engineering design team, ranging from graduates to industry experts, that deliver design work on water company frameworks throughout the UK.
- Be part of our wider technical practice network, enabling you to build your knowledge, skills, and career with like-minded engineers.
- Support growth of our regional water engineering team by bringing your individual strengths and passions.
- Assist the co-ordination of environmental, geotechnical, civil, or other specialist disciplines to assist in the provision of RPS’ wider multi-disciplinary design service.
- Knowledge sharing and technical development of junior colleagues.
- Supporting the efficient and timely delivery of projects.
- Maintaining up-to-date technical and industry knowledge.
Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
- Engineer or senior engineer in civil engineering with experience in the water industry.
- Have demonstrable experience in water and wastewater infrastructure, including hydraulic design of water pipelines, sewers (gravity & rising mains), trunk mains, and pump stations.
- Be proactive in proposing new approaches or ways of working to solve problems.
- A good understanding of the designers’ responsibilities under the CDM regulations.
- Have strong communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or actively working towards this status.
- Good grasp and working knowledge of relevant British Standards, UK Industry Codes of Practice, and Water Specifications.
Qualifications
- Preferably degree-qualified professional, with a BSc, BEng, or MEng in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
