Tetra Tech seeks Trainee Leakage Engineers for permanent, full-time roles in Wales to support regional leakage reduction programmes. You will be part of multi-disciplinary teams that include three-person site survey crews and office specialists, delivering leakage detection, monitoring and repair activities across multiple regional contracts. Day-to-day you will conduct field investigations, capture pressure and flow data, support excavations, complete electronic reporting and contribute to regulatory targets. The role is operational and client facing, supported by full training, mentoring and an allocated company van.

Your impact in this position:

  • In the short term you will develop core leakage detection skills and support KPI delivery across district metered areas.
  • Over the medium term you will take on increased responsibility for planning and executing detection programmes, mentoring junior colleagues and improving operational efficiency.
  • Long term, the role offers a clear progression pathway into senior leakage technician, team leader or specialist analytical roles within Tetra Tech, working on projects that reduce water loss and protect customers and the environment.

Core Capabilities Required For Success:

  • Field technical competence: Willingness to work outdoors in all weather, learn utility tracing, noise logging, step-testing and data capture techniques.
  • Operational resilience and safety focus: Ability to work safely in confined spaces and on highways, follow procedures and pass mandatory drugs and alcohol testing and DBS checks.
  • Analytical and reporting skills: Accurate data recording, electronic timesheet submission and clear reporting of findings that support regulatory obligations.
  • Communication and teamwork: Strong verbal and written communication, customer focus and ability to build working relationships with colleagues, contractors and clients.
  • Learning agility and problem solving: Open to training, adaptable under pressure, and able to diagnose issues and recommend practical leakage solutions.

Qualifications And Training:

  • Expected: full UK driving licence.
  • Desirable: prior field experience, foundation training in water network hydraulics and a commitment to continuous professional development.

Work patterns & location:

Permanent, Monday–Friday 07:00–15:30 with overtime, evenings and occasional weekends as required. Roles are field-based in South and West Wales with travel across regional sites. Hybrid or remote working is limited due to operational and outdoor responsibilities.
