We are recruiting multiple Principal Mechanical Design Engineers (Water) for long-term frameworks across the UK, including a Β£100 million framework with United Utilities to improve river health in Northwest England. RPS has over 20 years of collaboration with United Utilities and is entering an exciting phase with AMP8, focusing on innovative water industry solutions to deliver sustainable water services.
About The Team: RPS Water Consulting comprises Engineers, Modellers, and Data Analysts providing Asset Management and Operational Strategy services to UK water industry clients, supporting business planning and delivery. We also work with other major UK water companies, managing long-term framework agreements, with projects leading into AMP8 and beyond, offering long-term career growth.
About You: You should have experience producing technical specifications, designing pumping and aeration systems, and collaborating on design reviews. Skills include creating General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, and P&ID diagrams, with excellent communication skills for client presentations and technical workshops. Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes is essential. You will contribute to project lifecycle activities, liaise with stakeholders, mentor junior staff, review technical designs, and support site surveys and asset condition assessments. Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Inventor is advantageous.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
- Water industry experience is a plus.
- Design of pumping systems, P&ID creation, specifications, and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of contract procurement methods, managing work to time, cost, and quality.
- Ability to travel to operational sites and inspect mechanical equipment.
Qualifications:
- IMechE accredited degree; postgraduate qualifications are a plus.
- Chartered status or working towards it.
- Membership with professional institutions like IET, InstMC, or CIWEM.
