Working alongside a range of multi‑disciplinary services, the role will provide an opportunity to work on varied projects, primarily in the renewables sector, providing you with rich experience in town planning across Northern Ireland and Scotland. Although work for this role is focused in the renewables sector, there will be opportunities to work on our projects that include major planning applications for major infrastructure projects through to supporting the delivery of office, retail or residential schemes.

We’re RPS, our projects are all around you. We define, design and manage projects that create shared value to a complex, urbanising and resource‑scarce world. Our people are our success. We need people who share our passion on solving the problems that matter. Here you’ll find work that is challenging and rewarding, and you’ll be supported every step of the way.

What you’ll be doing

With our planning service at the heart of the business, the role will provide a progressive step towards managing planning casework independently and helping towards defining a career pathway towards an Associate/Technical Director role.

This is a key role where you will actively link between Technical Directors/ Directors and the wider team, providing mentoring and evidence where appropriate. You’ll be responsible for managing and overseeing client projects from commencement to completion and ensuring delivery is achieved to target.

A typical day could include

  • Supporting Planning Directors in successfully delivering their planning caseload
  • Directly engaging in our business development initiatives
  • Actively supporting our Senior Planners, Planners, Assistant Planners and Graduates
  • Taking a lead role, preparing bid proposals, supporting colleagues with tender submissions and helping them to deliver and manage projects
  • Assist in public consultations with preparatory materials and represent RPS at public events in support of client proposals
  • Attend and monitor committee and other hearings

Who we’re looking for

  • A fully qualified RTPI chartered town planner
  • Substantive planning experience in the renewables sector (wind, solar, BESS etc)
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines in a corporate environment
  • A passion for planning, development and environmental issues
  • A good working knowledge of planning policy
  • A keen eye on emerging planning policy
  • A strategic thinker and someone who can readily problem solve
  • A market awareness and a good understanding of local planning issues

What’s in it for you?

We’re an accredited training provider – from entry level to master’s degree level professional qualifications in leadership & management and executive coaching & mentoring, we support learning and development for everyone.

A personal development plan and a transparent career pathway puts you in the driving seat of your career and you’ll be supported as far as you want to go.

We encourage and value different ideas, perspectives, and styles of thinking. We need a mix of experiences and skills to develop the most innovative ideas. We respect one another and recognise the potential and contribution of everyone. You’ll be joining a diverse community and a company that puts its people first and prioritises their wellbeing.

We understand the need to work flexibly, with agile offices and hybrid working offered as standard, we’re happy to talk about flexible working. This is a workplace that works for you.

A career here is far from ordinary. Here you’re not a number, you’re part of the solution.
