Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Water Industry
We are currently recruiting a Senior Electrical and ICA Design Engineer to join our dynamic Water Consultancy team across the UK. You will work on AMP8 and AMP9 projects, ensuring exceptional water services in a collaborative environment.
About the Team
- RPS Water Consulting is part of Tetra Tech, providing asset management, operational strategy and engineering solutions across the water industry.
- We undertake urban drainage, water quality modelling studies, WINEP, SOAF, DWMPs, and catchment investment planning.
- Our projects deliver solutions from feasibility through to detailed design.
About You
- Experienced liaison with clients, interpreting data and developing project plans.
- Skilled in technical outputs: specifications, schedules, reports, load and instrument lists, cable sizing calculations, single line diagrams and system architecture layouts.
- Proficient in general arrangement drawings, 3D models, 2D plans and sections, and P&ID design.
- Strong communication skills for client presentations, collaborative design workshops, safety reviews (including HAZOPs and ALMs).
- Understanding of wastewater treatment processes and asset infrastructure assessment for electrical and ICA design.
Your Responsibilities
- Balance workload across long-term frameworks with water companies and contractors across the UK.
- Seek positive outcomes for projects and the community.
- Collaborate closely with senior engineers and stakeholders to support delivery.
- Ment and guide less experienced team members, overseeing technical governance.
- Interpret and supervise technical drawings, ideally via AutoCAD and Inventor.
- Undertake asset condition surveys and prepare reports.
- Contribute to process and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) production.
- Prepare electrical and ICA design deliverables: calculations, reports, specifications, datasheets, drawings, schedules, procurement documentation.
- Support compliance with Designer duties under CDM, including design risk assessments.
- Ensure quality assurance systems and standards are followed.
- Act as project manager, package manager, or design team leader as required.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- A good technical understanding of electrical engineering and ICA principles.
- Significant water industry experience.
- Proficiency in load assessment, LV and MV distribution system design.
- Use of P&IDs to create equipment schedules.
- ICA and SCADA system architecture development.
- Production of URSs, FDSs and control philosophies.
- Production of specifications, reports and technical documentation.
- Compliance with CDM Regulations and safety design.
- Experience with NEC contract forms or equivalent.
- Managing work to time, cost, and quality criteria.
- Supporting junior staff development.
- Travel for operational and construction site visits as required.
- AutoCAD or similar design package knowledge is an advantage.
Qualifications
- A degree-level qualification in electrical engineering or closely allied subject, ideally IET-accredited; postgraduate qualifications are an advantage.
- Chartered engineer or working towards and nearing chartership.
