Senior Ecologist

RPS, a Tetra Tech company, is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our East of England ecology team, based in Norwich or Cambridge. We welcome candidates from Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire, and remote workers.

About the Team

Our East of England ecology team provides ecological services supporting renewable energy, residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects across the region. We are involved with major offshore wind developments, onshore wind, solar projects, and have a strong presence in residential and commercial markets.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design and lead protected species surveys for major development projects in the East of England.
  2. Author ecological reports (PEA, EcIA, EIA, HRA, BNG, LEMPs, CEMPs).
  3. Conduct Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, including habitat surveys, condition assessments, Biodiversity Metric calculations, and report preparation.
  4. Develop and implement ecological mitigation strategies, including licensing for protected species.
  5. Assist in fee proposals and tenders.
  6. Manage ecological projects, liaising with clients and managing finances.
  7. Support the development of junior team members through training and shadowing opportunities.

Candidate Profile:

  • Proficiency in UK Habitat Classification and habitat assessments.
  • Experience in designing and executing ecology surveys and interpreting results.
  • Experience with ecological mitigation, protected species licensing, and Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW).
  • Team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Good time management and communication skills.
  • Full UK driving license and willingness to travel, including overnight stays.

Qualifications and Licenses:

  • BSc or MSc in Ecology or related field.
  • Eligible for or holding CIEEM membership.
  • Protected species survey licenses (desirable for great crested newt and bats).
  • FISC Level 4 (desirable).
