RPS are currently seeking an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join our progressive business and service our clients. This role will be within the civil engineering team which could include Residential, Highways and Renewables based projects. Join our industry-leading team, we offer a wealth of in-house expertise across a variety of different sectors, with a focus on the Residential and Highways sectors.

RPS Design Division delivers projects across multiple, niche sectors which include Civils, Highways, Aviation, Structures, Architecture and more as we strive to achieve the right balance between form and function when faced with competing priorities around sustainability, materiality, cost and constructability. Digitalisation is at the core of our delivery model allowing our clients and their stakeholders to really experience our designs right from project concept stage and through drawing on expertise spanning decades, industries and disciplines, we assist clients to harmonise design drivers through inspired engineering, architecture and development services.
What you’ll be doing
This is an exciting role for an individual looking to progress their career as a Principal Civil Engineer within our industry leading team where we have an excellent reputation, offering a wealth of expertise in all sectors of civil engineering.
- Discipline lead for the production of 3D models using Civil 3D or Site 3D modelling software
- Production of drawings from the 3D model
- As the project lead, efficiently coordinate the production of detailed drawing and specification output applying expert technical knowledge in line with relevant legislation and industry standards
- Perform project and drawing / model reviews to ensure technical requirements are achieved
- Perform review of design calculations & basis of design assumptions relevant to role
- Technical and design point of reference for the team
- Technical specification and accurate report writing
- High quality of design output working efficiently and overseeing the quality of technical / design output of junior colleagues
- Review and comment upon consultants’ and contractors’ design proposals relevant to role
- Ensuring team compliance with protocols and office drawing standards, attend, and contribute to project and technical meetings with colleagues
- Supporting the Director with preparation of tender/ bid documents, scope of service and fee proposal activity
- Attend and contribute to project and client meetings and site inspections
Who we’re looking for
To be successful in this role you will ideally be Chartered or Incorporated with relevant professional body or have a relevant degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent Level 6 qualification. Additionally, you will:
- Be proficient in creating Civil 3D or Site 3D models and extracting sections and quantities from the model
- Experienced within the Residential and/or the Highways sector and knowledge of industry design guides and technical approval processes
- Be experienced in the application of relevant design software
- Demonstrate technical knowledge of relevant legislation and standards
- Be experienced within modelling of highways, drainage and earthworks
- Show commercial awareness and project management skills
- Be experienced in the management of design processes
- Experience of managing junior members of the design team
