Overview

The Property & Casualty (P&C) team is part of the firm\’s Insurance Group and has a well-established client base, acting for the majority of household and commercial property insurers in the market, as well as some large insureds and cover holders. The team handles a wide variety of claims arising out of property damage, including fire, water, subsidence, construction and impact damage. The P&C Insurance team spans London and Bristol and currently includes a Partner, an Of Counsel, Senior Associates, Associates, Claims Handlers and a Litigation Executive in the Bristol team.

The role

We are seeking a Claims Handler to join the Bristol team. The role largely involves running a workload of subrogated recovery matters on behalf of a range of insurers. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to run a property recovery claim from first instruction, through the pre-action stage and into proceedings when necessary. Familiarity with Civil Procedure Rules is therefore necessary. The work is varied, interesting and challenging and, where you demonstrate you can run cases successfully, you will be given autonomy to stamp your own mark on the files. There will be the opportunity to work on matters varying in value from £10,000 up to millions of pounds. You will also get involved with business development and client initiatives, where appropriate.

In addition, you can expect to:

  • Manage a large caseload of Property Insurance claims.
  • Deliver high-quality, timely output to clients, ensuring strong client service and alignment with agreed working practices and client service level agreements.
  • Capture and collate required Management Information in accordance with agreed practice for clients.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of the team\’s service, support, processes and procedures.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Claims handling experience, including running a caseload.
  • Litigation experience and familiarity with Civil Procedure Rules. Insurance experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to build internal relationships and understand the firm’s cross-functional expertise to deliver excellent client service.
  • Commercial, proactive approach with timely responses to meet client needs and deadlines.
  • Good knowledge of legal procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Good initiative and problem-solving abilities with appropriate consultation when needed.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • High level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Commitment to a supportive, inclusive and collaborative firm culture.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
