This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, commercial and proactive Client Development Manager to join RPC on a 12-month maternity leave cover.

This could be a great opportunity for a Senior Client Development Executive looking to step up, or an experienced Client Development Manager looking for a new challenge.

This role sits within the Insurance Business Development Team and plays a key role in managing some of the firm's most significant insurance clients, reporting to the Senior Insurance Business Development Manager to deliver the firm's insurance sector growth strategy.

The role is highly visible and a crucial part of our ambition around accelerating revenue growth through institutional client development across the firm.

It is front and centre in the new Managing Partner's strategy for profitable growth.

Key responsibilities

  • Client Development and Relationship Management
  • Take responsibility for day-to-day account management and strategic development of some of our key and growth insurance clients, ensuring actions are progressed, collaborating and communicating effectively with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the senior insurance business development manager to deliver our firm's insurance sector strategy, driving profitable growth in key markets and practice areas through targeted client development.
  • Work closely with the central client development team, supporting our firmwide priority client programme, aligning best practice and methodology.
  • Identify and motivate client teams to progress opportunities across practice areas and offices, encouraging cross-selling and proactively bringing the whole firm to our clients.
  • Leverage financial and market data, client feedback and intelligence to underpin strategy and monitor performance against targets.
  • Build a strong internal network across global offices with client relationship partners, fee earners and business services teams to deliver an excellent client service, connecting the dots and sharing intelligence.
  • Attend client meetings and proactively develop your external network, facilitating introductions and generating opportunities.
  • Play a leading role in obtaining client feedback, working alongside relationship, matter and pitch teams, and the client listening team, ensuring actions are progressed and learning embedded.
  • Secondments
  • Connect regularly with secondees, equipping them to maximise their time at the client, collecting insight from them and ensuring continued involvement with the relationship post secondment.
  • Pitching
  • Work with client relationship partners and the proposals team to deliver responses to pitches and panel tenders, overseeing client specific content and managing client communication.
  • Work with the commercial team to prepare rates and alternative fee proposals for clients.
  • Internal and External Communications
  • Support preparation and distribution of regular internal communication to insurance leadership, covering key movements and strategic developments across the key and growth insurance clients.
  • Support the senior insurance business development manager to identify positive case examples and client relationship wins for internal and external promotion.
  • Marketing and Events
  • Work with the wider BD, marketing, CRM and events teams to ensure promotional materials and events are tailored and targeted at the right client contacts.
  • Attend client events and proactively monitor resulting opportunities, supporting ROI tracking.
  • Team collaboration
  • Work as part of the wider Brand, Clients and Markets team to share best practice and ideas.
  • Act as a coach and role model toward more junior members of the BCM team - providing constructive guidance, support, encouragement, feedback, communication and a commitment to their development and progress.

On occasion you will be required to support wider firm activities either on discrete projects or contributing to the larger strategic aims of the firm.

The team

This role sits within our Insurance Business Development team, reporting to the Senior Insurance Business Development Manager within a team of five.

The team has responsibility for delivering the insurance sector growth strategy across market groups and clients.

This team is a key part of our Business and Client Development Team, working collaboratively with BD and CD colleagues to drive profitable growth across our priority, growth and target clients.

The Business and Client Development team is part of our broader Brand, Clients and Markets team.

Knowledge, skills and experience

Client development and/or account management experience is essential as the role manages some of the firm's largest clients and works closely with the central firmwide client development team.

The role is likely best suited to a Client Development professional operating at a Senior Executive or Manager level with a minimum of 5 years' experience within professional services.

Skills and experience ideally to include

  • A strong understanding of business-to-business client development and client relationship support within professional services, ideally the legal sector
  • Experience of developing client-focused key account plans and a track record of delivering financial results aligned to objectives
  • Strong project management and planning skills
  • Excellent analytical skills, particularly when looking at financial/matter intelligence
  • Develops effective internal and external client relationships and adopts a client-centric approach to deliver strong results and innovative solutions
  • Manages resources, budgets and projects efficiently and commercially.
  • Effective relationship builder – can interact with and influence individuals across the business
  • Effective and adaptable business writing and communication skills
