The Claims Handling Department provides an outsourced managed claims service for leading professional indemnity insurers. The team adjusts claims made against professionals on behalf of leading insurers, acting under delegated authority levels for pre-litigated matters from first notification of loss to resolution. Our Claims Handling Department provides significant value to the wider RPC law firm through the provision of referrals and is an important aspect of the firm's insurance business and future strategy. The team is based in RPC's Bristol office at Bridgewater House. This role will be based in Bristol.

We have an opportunity for a Claims Handling Administration Apprentice to join a growing team that handles claims made against professionals on an outsourced basis. Working with the Claims Handling Administration Manager, Team Leaders, and other team members, you will be responsible for a technical and efficient administration support service to the Claims Handling department. Collectively, you will be responsible for building and shaping the team for the future, embedding principles of lean and efficient working, and establishing the culture, values and behaviours that make for an attractive and varied legal career.

We are working in partnership with Damar Training, who will provide the formal education elements as part of the qualification of this apprenticeship. Successful completion of the apprenticeship would result in the apprentice receiving Level 3 accreditation in Business Administration. At this stage, we envisage there will be opportunities to work in the Claims Handling team as an Administrator following an initial 18-month fixed term contract whilst the apprenticeship is undertaken.

The main responsibilities will be assisting team members with administrative tasks including:

  • Opening new matters and inputting data into the claims management system
  • Sending acknowledgements
  • Carrying out conflict searches
  • Assisting with diary management
  • Ensuring that all basic administrative tasks are completed accurately and timely, i.e. filing, scanning, making/receiving telephone calls, dealing with enquiries etc.
  • Dealing with financial matters for example, arranging and processing payments, dealing with billing and accounts queries, recording and updating financial information etc.
  • Capturing and collating required management information (MI) for performance management, client reporting, service level agreements (SLA's) etc.
  • Liaising with insurers and brokers to request full policy information.
  • Ensuring policies, proposal forms and schedules are properly filed.
  • Management of centralised mailboxes.
  • Providing excellent customer service at all times.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Minimum 6 GCSE grades A-C or 9-4 including Maths and English.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Organised and efficient.
  • Hardworking, enthusiastic, and motivated.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Committed to turn a hand to whatever tasks are needed to meet the team's aims.
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
