We are creating a new role to support our Costs Lawyers and Costs Solicitors in assisting Partners and Associates in all matters relating to costs. Our current process includes a combination of one dedicated Senior Costs Lawyer, one Costs Lawyer and one Solicitor specialising in costs, with some outsourced provision.
We are looking for a Junior Costs Draftsperson to join our expanding, busy litigation practice. Litigation is at the heart of RPC's business, and we know it inside out. At any one time more than half of our lawyers are handling complex large scale global disputes. With over 300 litigation lawyers to call upon, our team is capable of handling the most complex cases in any type of dispute.
The role involves assisting in helping to bolster our in-house capability. This is an exciting time of growth for the team and is a great opportunity to support and assist within the specialist and ever-developing area of costs litigation.
The Successful Candidate will have the opportunity to work across a number of teams, with Partners, Associates and Paralegals delivering costs services. The work will be varied, interesting and challenging with the opportunity to work on a wide range of matters, with values ranging from tens of thousands of pounds to multi millions. The underlying work types include Commercial Disputes, Professional Negligence, Medical Claims and Property Damage.
Responsibilities
- Provide support with collating bundles and documents for the court and service, liaising with the court and preparing routine correspondence on active cases.
- Prepare and submit claims for costs for assessment.
- Assist with preparation of N260 Costs Statements and Schedules.
- Assist with Fixed Recoverable Costs cases to include preparing Precedent U.
- Phasing incurred work for Costs Budgets and budgeting monitoring.
- Provide administrative support to the team by assisting with capacity management, handling the busy Costs Team inbox and capturing data for the work done by the team.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
- Some experience of working in a legal environment/law, ideally with specific expertise in costs and/or legal finance.
- Attention to detail and good organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills (both orally and in writing).
- High level of confidentiality and integrity.
- Able to work efficiently and commercially and understand the importance of financial hygiene.
- Collaborative and able to work effectively in a team.
- Committed to being part of a supportive, inclusive and collaborative firm culture.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically familiarity with Excel.
- A law degree, GDL or equivalent (desirable), ideally with paralegal experience or experience in a similar type of role.
