The Construction Insurance team is part of the firm’s Insurance Group and has a well‑established client base, acting for most Professional Indemnity insurers in the market as well as many of the UK’s largest contractors and construction consultancies, both on joint and direct instructions. The team handles a wide variety of claims against construction professionals such as engineers, architects, quantity surveyors, project managers, design-and-build contractors and surveyors. The role largely involves defending liability claims both pre‑ and post‑litigation, while also providing advice and representation on associated matters such as adjudication, disciplinary proceedings, arbitration and risk management. The team is frequently asked to advise insurers on the policy‑coverage aspects of claims. The team spans London and Bristol and is top‑ranked for Professional Negligence in Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.
Responsibilities
- Managing a caseload of construction professional indemnity claims, including coverage issues.
- Delivering high‑quality, timely output to clients, ensuring the highest levels of client service and alignment with agreed working practices and client service level agreements.
- Contributing to the development and improvement of the team’s service, support, processes, and procedures.
- Working to develop an environment of constant improvement: enthusiastically sharing with and helping others.
- Capturing and collating required management information in accordance with agreed practice for clients.
- Arranging and attending client events, when required.
Qualifications
- 5 years post‑qualification experience (PQE).
- A good grounding in construction litigation; experience of insurance is desirable but not essential.
- A solid knowledge of legal procedures.
- Able to deliver legal and commercial solutions and establish collaborative working relationships with clients and colleagues to provide an outstanding client experience.
- Ability to support the team to manage the client experience, develop trusted relationships and interact with clients confidently to achieve the best outcome.
- Ability to work efficiently and commercially, understanding the importance of financial hygiene.
- Collaborative and able to work effectively in a team.
- Good attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and plans accordingly.
- Committed to being part of a supportive, inclusive and collaborative firm culture.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
