A full time Healthcare Assistant Vacancy has become available to join our friendly team at Royston Group Practice. You will be a vital part of the team that will support the medical staff and patients at our surgery. You will work closely with our qualified nurses, carrying out a wide range of duties to care for, support, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.
Main duties of the job:
- Carry out ECGs as requested
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
- Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
- Carry out BMI checks as directed
- Act as a chaperone as required
- When trained, administer flu vaccinations
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

We are a friendly GP Practice caring for 7300 patients. We are very well led and all enjoy working as part of a team. The surgery consists of the following: 3 GP Partners and 1 salaried GP, 1 Nurse, 1 HCA (the post advertised), 1 Practice Manager, 2 Secretaries.
Job responsibilities:
To provide Health Care Assistant (HCA) services to the practice population(s). Supported by the nursing team within the practice, the Health Care Assistant (HCA) will deliver care within the boundaries of their role and in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols. Responsible for the care delivered, demonstrating critical thinking and skills in clinical decision making within the parameters of their qualifications and role requirements. You will focus upon supporting patients to be healthy by assessing their needs, providing HCA care, health education advice, screening activities, implementing care at the surgery, maintaining clinically accurate records and running clinics. You will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients and support the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing HCA guidance as required.

Qualifications:
- Healthcare qualification or equivalent level
- Immunisation (flu, B12, childhood, travel)
- ECGs
- Venepuncture
- New patient medicals including height, weight, BP, pulse
- Ability to record accurate clinical notes
Experience:
- 6 months relevant experience working in a primary care environment in the last 2 years
- Experience of working with the general public
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Experience in working in a GP Practice
