The predicted salary is between 30000 - 42000 £ per year.

The Venue Manager will work and be responsible for hiring, training and supervising the in-house staff as well as the financial management of the venue and ensuring all security and health and safety measures are met.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Open and close the building when required and perform all appropriate checks.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the building using contractors or employees to ensure the smooth running of the space.
  • Ensure that FOH checks and show floor checks are completed by a Duty Manager for every performance, including ensuring that Duty Manager’s reports and performance reports are filed for every show.
  • Ensure that the on-duty teams have been fully briefed on H&S, evacuation procedures and latecomers policy, each time they are on duty.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Take responsibility for weekly merchandise sales, including ensuring that merchandise is available and displayed and that merchandise reports are shared with the General Manager and Production team at the end of every week.
  • Ensure the venue is always tidy and presentable when open to the public for performances and events.
  • Ensure the smooth running of the whole building and escalate customer complaints to Head Office when appropriate.
  • Brief your venue team on all relevant details of the shift and liaise with Audience Managers, Duty Technician & in-house technicians over relevant operational points.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders ensuring continuity of provision, through detailed Duty Management reports, incident reporting and handover notes.
  • Draw up rotas consistent with budgeted forecast and consistent as a percentage of revenue generation, ensuring that the building is appropriately staffed at all times and that staff are scheduled regularly across a variety of functions including bar, coat check and ushering to ensure maximum flexibility within the staff team.
  • Provide payroll information for all front of house staff.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to increase profit by monitoring and controlling expenditure and increasing sales.

General:

  • Hold a First Aid at Work certificate and provide first aid to staff and customers as required.
  • Contribute to the Health and Safety policy and relevant procedures and be responsible for the implementation of suitable and sufficient method statements, risk assessments and standard operating procedures pertaining to the beverage business.
  • Ensure that staff are suitably trained to ensure compliance, consistent delivery and a high standard of customer service.
  • Deliver internal training as appropriate.
  • Determine, promote and monitor customer service standards for all those working in the bar; motivate staff to deliver agreed standards.

Personal specification:

  • Experience of managing the front of house operation in either a theatre or a venue.
  • Experience of duty managing an equitable venue.
  • Experience of supervising casual staff.
  • Experience of recruitment and training of casual staff.
  • Experience of rota management.
  • Experience of controlling and reconciling programme and/or merchandise sales.
  • Understanding of UK Health and Safety and Licensing law.
  • Highly organised, efficient and collaborative approach to working as part of a team.
  • Computer literacy including knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook is essential.
  • Strong ability to problem solve and work under pressure.
  • A high degree of attention to detail.
  • A flexible approach to working hours.
  • A proven interest and commitment to working in theatre.
  • Excellent communication and computing skills.

Contractual information:

  • Initially a twelve-month fixed term contract subject to an initial three-month probationary period.
  • 20 days’ holiday during each holiday year, pro-rata to the length of the engagement in addition to all Bank and Public Holidays.
