Main Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Site Crafts Team Supervisor, the C&I Craftsperson will be responsible for fault diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of equipment across all areas of the plant, as well as carrying out routine maintenance activities. You will work efficiently and proactively, following safety rules and procedures, while requiring minimal supervision. This is primarily a daytime role; however, flexibility is required to provide cover outside normal working hours, including shifts and weekends when necessary. Please note that this role involves working in confined spaces, at height, and in all weather conditions.
In addition to maintenance duties, you may be required to support other site functions, including operations teams, storekeeping activities, and general site duties as allocated.
Key Responsibilities
- Help ensure the Power Station remains a safe place to work and actively contribute to its safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation.
- Take responsibility for the quality of your work and accurately record completed activities using the station’s computerised work management system (PRISM).
- Make recommendations for future maintenance activities where appropriate.
- Report all safety and environmental issues immediately.
- Maintain productivity levels in line with business requirements while ensuring high-quality workmanship and excellent housekeeping standards throughout and at the completion of work.
- Carry out both planned and reactive maintenance activities relevant to your discipline, as directed by the Chargehand or Supervisor.
- Develop an understanding of station processes, including stores procedures, spare parts management, quality assurance systems, and maintenance management systems.
- Take a proactive approach to improving maintenance activities and support station maintenance and operations as required.
- Work closely with maintenance engineers and technicians to investigate and resolve recurring or unusual faults.
Knowledge & Skills
- A proactive and technically competent approach to safety, quality, and achieving company and team goals.

- A minimum of NVQ Level 3 qualification in an engineering discipline.
- Apprentice-trained with at least one year of relevant experience.
- Competence in the use of basic IT systems.
- High levels of self-motivation, self-reliance, confidence, and flexibility in working hours.
- Ability to make effective decisions in a pressurised environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organisation.
Control and Instrumentation
- Demonstrable experience and technical knowledge of modern control and instrumentation equipment, including level, pressure, and flow transmitters, actuators, and chemical analysers.
- Experience with, or knowledge of, HMI and PLC systems is desirable.
- Experience in pneumatic and hydraulic control valve setup, fault diagnosis, positioners, and servo systems.
- Understanding and practical experience of DSEAR and ATEX regulations, with the ability to train to COMPEX standards.
- Ability to work competently and reliably on safety instrumented systems (SIS), distributed control systems (DCS), and hazardous area equipment.
