Age

You can join between the ages of 16 – 36. At the time of your application, you will need to be between 15 years & 7 months old and 36 years old. You can start your training as a Junior Soldier at the Army Foundation College from the age of 16 years and 6 months.

Qualifications

GCSE Grade A–D/9-3, or Scottish National 4, in English Language and Maths minimum, or vocational qualifications such as an NVQ in Business Administration.

Responsibilities

  • Serve our soldiers through administrative support.
  • Support the chain of command with their decision-making.
  • Deploy on operations.

Training Steps

  1. Step 1: Basic training will teach you how to be a soldier. This covers everything from fieldcraft to how to handle a rifle.
  2. Step 2: You have 15 weeks’ specialist training at Worthy Down, Winchester, where you learn about military personnel and financial administration.

You’re trained to use our information systems and will also get your Category B Driving licence (car). Later in your career, you can take recognised qualifications in Business Management and Human Resources. These include apprenticeships and degrees.

Salary

You'll earn £27,282 a year from the start of your training, which will go up as you progress throughout your career.

Personal Development

  • Level 2 Certificate for Military Personnel Administrators.
  • Level 3 Diploma for Military Personnel Administrators.
  • Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship.
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and IT.

Training is accredited by the Defence Awarding Organisation, Institute of Leadership and Management and Chartered Management Institute, ranging from Levels 4 to 7. Personal development opportunity to undertake a foundation degree in HR Practice. Opportunity to apply for accountancy training after qualifying period and selection.

  1. 1-2 days: Online application - Complete your application form online.
  2. 1 - 2 weeks: Meet with an Army Recruiter who will discuss your application.
  3. Medical Checks: Next you'll have your medical records checked.
  4. 1-3 months: Assessment centre - Attend a 2-day residential assessment.
  5. 3 - 5 months: Security clearance - Background and security checks are conducted.
