Overview

The Army Veterinary Nurse works with dogs, horses and other animals across the globe, providing general and specialist care in a range of environments—from field clinics to operating theatres. The role supports the well‑being of soldiers and civilians while allowing you to gain valuable qualifications and experience.

Age

Applicants must be at least 17 years and 9 months old and no older than 35 years and 6 months at the time of application.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Veterinary Nurse
  • Registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to injured search dogs, sick cavalry horses and other animals.
  • Manage veterinary equipment and supplies in both clinical and field settings.
  • Assist in emergency procedures such as surgery and animal rescue.
  • Work closely with Army veterinary doctors and other support staff.
  • Carrying out additional military duties as required.

Training & Career Development

Initial military training lasts 13 weeks, followed by 8 weeks of specialized training at the Defence Animal Training Regiment. Throughout the career, the Army provides continuous professional development and support.

You will earn a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Veterinary Nursing during the role.

Salary

£27,282 per annum during training; £36,103 per annum upon completion.
