Overview
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) is a wildlife conservation charity with a bold vision: a world where nature is protected, valued and loved.
This is an exciting role to manage marketing and membership functions of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), driving brand visibility, visitor growth, membership recruitment and retention and adoption income.
In this role you will collaborate across RZSS to maximise audience engagement, commercial performance and fundraising success, positioning Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park as world-class visitor attractions and RZSS as a global leader in conservation, science and community engagement.
How you\'ll contribute to our mission:
Some of the things you’ll do:
Strategic and Business Development
- Contribute to and implement the marketing and sales strategy, creating and delivering annual marketing plans aligned with RZSS goals
- Develop and monitor membership and adoption strategies, identifying new opportunities for growth
- Monitor sector trends, competitor activity and audience insights to drive innovation and strategic improvements
- Ensure marketing and membership activities deliver measurable Return on Investment (ROI) and align with wider organisational priorities
Marketing, Membership and Content
- Oversee promotional campaigns across all paid and organic channels to grow brand awareness and audience engagement
- Commission, create and evaluate content (including photography, video and written assets), ensuring quality and consistency across platforms
- Lead development of digital activity, maximising performance through Search Engine Optimization, paid campaigns and data-driven optimisation
- Oversee membership and adoption communications, ensuring retention and recruitment campaigns are timely, targeted and effective
- Manage promotional activity for visitor events, fundraising campaigns and membership publications (e.g., the membership magazine).
Data, Insight and Evaluation
- Lead market research and insight programmes, applying findings to improve campaigns and user experience
- Analyse data and KPIs to measure performance of marketing, membership and adoption activities
- Provide regular reporting and recommendations to senior colleagues on campaign outcomes and audience trends
Brand and Reputation
- Manage and develop the RZSS brand, ensuring consistency across all outputs
- Support the conservation, education, fundraising and membership teams with integrated marketing activities, advice and guidance
- Enhance RZSS’s reputation through proactive engagement with stakeholders and partners
Financial and Resource Management
- Manage and monitor marketing and membership budgets, ensuring compliance and value for money
- Oversee agencies and suppliers, ensuring delivery to agreed standards and budgets
People Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement
- Inspire, develop and manage a high-performing team
- Champion diversity, equity, equality, inclusion and belonging
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications
- Deep understanding of marketing principles
- Knowledge of the tourism and visitor experience
- Brand positioning and audience growth
- Data regulations, including GDPR (training can be provided)
- Digital marketing, including SEO, PPC, Google Analytics and CRM
- Excellent creating copywriting and proofreading skills
- Data analysis, segmentation and reporting
- Project management, including website and campaign development
- Proficient in Microsoft office and content management systems
- Proven success in a similar role, managing multi-channel marketing and membership activity
- Experience of leading and motivating teams
- Demonstrable experience delivering marketing strategies to deadlines and budgets
- Experience managing external agencies and stakeholders
Benefits
- Starting salary of £46,634 or £47,800 per annum (offer based on experience, with opportunity for pay progression to £51,979 per annum)
