RYA Scotland is the recognised Scottish Governing Body for recreational, competitive and professional boating. Guided by our strategy People, Places and Communities, we work to ensure a welcoming, vibrant and sustainable boating community across Scotland. Our activity, particularly our pathway program for young sailors, relies on high-quality, safe and well-organised training and events. The effective planning, movement and maintenance of RIBs, trailers and equipment is essential to delivering these experiences.

The Logistics Coordinator plays a crucial role within this operational framework, supporting the Performance Pathway Development Officer (PPDO), coaches and volunteers.

The Logistics Coordinator ensures RYA Scotland’s equipment, particularly RIBs and associated assets, are well maintained, compliant and available when required. The role provides hands-on logistical support before and after our Pathway activity and other RYAS events. In particular, they will work closely with the Performance Pathway Team. The post holder will be highly practical, organised and proactive, able to work independently and collaboratively across Scotland.

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality logistical, operational and equipment support for RYA Scotland, particularly Performance Pathway activity by:

  • Maintaining RYA Scotland’s Pool car, fleet of RIBs, trailers and equipment.
  • Supporting safe, compliant and efficient event delivery through detailed logistical planning and on-site support.
  • Managing equipment movement, condition, storage and asset tracking.
  • Contributing to safe operations aligned with RYA Scotland’s strategy, values and sustainability commitments.

Key Stakeholders will include:

  • RYA Scotland staff and Contracted coaching team
  • Clubs, Centres, and other delivery partners
  • Supply and maintenance companies
  • RYA staff with responsibility for asset maintenance
  • RYAS Volunteers and Committee/Board

Equipment and Asset Management

  • Coordinate routine and scheduled maintenance, servicing and repairs of the RYAS Pool car, RIBs, trailers and engines.
  • Manage checks, servicing and replacement of ancillary equipment on all RIBs (PPE, throwlines, kill cords, first-aid kits, radios).
  • Conduct pre-use and post-use inspections, documenting condition and identifying issues.
  • Maintain accurate logs for servicing schedules, compliance checks, insurance and asset tracking.
  • Manage and organise storage, ensuring accessible, safe and well-maintained facilities.
  • Maintain trailer roadworthiness, including lights, tyres, straps, hitches and locks.
  • Carry out basic mechanical tasks such as swapping propellers, fixing trailer lights, changing wheels, attaching/replacing tow straps, and minor running repairs.
  • Support sustainable practices including spill kit management, fuel storage compliance and responsible waste disposal.

Transport, Movement & Operational Logistics

  • Transport RIBs, equipment and trailers to events across Scotland including repositioning RIBs between consecutive events.
  • Lead on the unloading/loading of RIBs, trailers and event equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Prepare, organise and transport specialist kit including mark-laying equipment, anchors, radios, tools, spare parts and event infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with clubs and centres around launch points, slipway access, parking and storage plans.

Event Preparation, Delivery & Pack-Down

  • Support the PPDO in preparing equipment for Scottish Sailing Open Training, Junior/Development Squad and Team, and other pathway events.
  • Set up RIBs on-site, including safety checks, PPE, radios and event-specific configurations.
  • Assist with implementing Event Safety Plans by ensuring correct equipment allocations and readiness.
  • Manage post-event processes: cleaning, refuelling, de-rigging, identifying repairs, restocking and returning equipment to storage.
  • Ensure equipment is ready for repeated use over busy periods.
  • Depending on experience the role may require on call responsibilities.
  • Delivery of Events working group Rib loan Inductions.

  • Support the PPDO in maintaining adherence to RYA Scotland’s safety plans and operational standards.

Location

This is a work from home contract - RYA Scotland has a logistics base just outside of Falkirk. However, the role is delivered throughout Scotland and regular travel and driving are essential. The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for providing logistical support before and after our Pathway activity and other RYAS events. A company vehicle will be made available for this purpose. Any additional mileage incurred using a personal vehicle, as well as accommodation and other expenses, will be reimbursed in accordance with RYA Scotland policies.

Remuneration and benefits

  • Salary range: £27,500 - £29,500 FTE per annum depending on experience for up to 17.5 hours per week
  • Benefits package includes 10% pension contribution and life insurance, free RYA Membership and associated preferential staff discounts.
  • 26 days annual leave (pro rata) plus public holidays.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK already in place. This role involves regular contact with children and/or adults at risk and the Logistics Coordinator will be required to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
