Locum Consultant with an Specialist interest in VR Surgery

Overview

The Ophthalmology Directorate is looking to appoint a full-time Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist with a specialist interest in VR surgery for 12 months.

Clinical Duties

The successful candidate will join a team of 18 consultants providing specialist services in the following areas:

• VR
• Diabetes
• Cornea
• Medical & Surgical Retina
• Ocular Motility
• Oculoplastics
• Uveitis

Whilst the post will be primarily based at New Cross Hospital, the successful candidate will be required to carry out clinics and theatre sessions at Cannock Chase Hospital or Walsall Manor Hospital.

Qualifications

The department welcomes applications from candidates who are in possession of FRCOphth or equivalent or those who are on the GMC specialist register (or are eligible for registration within 6 months of the interview date with a certificate of completion of specialist training).

Facilities

The department has two state‑of‑the‑art theatres based at New Cross Hospital and a bespoke, recently refurbished Cataract Theatre at the Cannock Chase Hospital site. It is supported by:

• Orthoptists
• Hospital‑based Optometrists
• A fully equipped imaging department and fields machines

Emergency Service

A walk‑in Emergency Service led by Ophthalmic Nurse Specialists is available within the Ophthalmology Emergency Department at the New Cross Hospital site and is supported by an Eye Referral Unit with booked appointments ’hot‑clinics’ for urgent cases.
