Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity available for a Retail Customer Assistant to join our team at Worcester Royal Hospital, Newtown Road, Worcester WR5 1JG. You will join us on a part‑time, permanent basis, and in return you will receive a competitive salary of £12.71 per hour (FTE £23,136 per annum).
About the Role
Royal Voluntary Service hospital cafés, shops and trolleys are part of the fabric of the NHS and a real asset in their own right. Staffed by employees and volunteers, we provide an outstanding range of beverages and healthy food choices. Our customers love the fact that the money they spend with us pays for volunteer action in hospitals and the community. Working alongside a friendly team of employees and volunteers, you will participate in the day‑to‑day running of our busy retail sites at Worcester Royal Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide friendly, helpful and efficient service at all times.
- Welcome customers, inform them about specials or new products, answer questions and accept orders and payments.
- Operate the till and cash out at end of shift.
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness, complying with health and safety and food hygiene standards and ensuring all areas of the site remain tidy.
- Ensure that all stock and displays are replenished regularly and order supplies when required.
- Take part in receiving deliveries, distributing, rotating and checking stock; assist with regular stock checks.
- Prepare hot and cold drinks and serve freshly made food such as cakes, sandwiches and pastries.
- Engage with volunteers to direct & lead by example, ensuring they have a great volunteer experience.
- Possibly push loaded trolleys of stock for long distances.
Hours & Working Conditions
10 hours per week. This includes one Saturday or Sunday and the remaining hours on a rota basis. Our retail sites are open on weekends and bank holidays. There may also be opportunities for paid overtime in busy periods or to cover absence.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a retail or café environment would be an advantage; training will be given.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver outstanding customer service.
- Excellent communications skills.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Familiarity with email and internet.
- Flexible approach towards working hours.
- Ability to work well within a team of employees and volunteers, and independently when required.
- Proficient literacy and numeracy.
- Knowledge of EPOS / till systems would be advantageous.
- Experience of general administrative processes.
- Commitment to undertake training and continuing professional development.
