Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity available for an Archivist to join our team. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a salary of £31,210 per annum.

About the Archivist role: The Archivist is responsible for the acquisition, cataloguing, preservation, and accessibility of organisational records of historical, legal, and operational significance. This role ensures that records are maintained according to best archival practices and legal standards, supporting compliance, transparency, and knowledge continuity. The Archivist works across departments to support colleagues in managing and accessing archived materials, both physical and digital.

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Location: Flexible with occasional site visits

What you’ll bring as our Archivist:

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of professional archival standards, including cataloguing, metadata, and preservation.
  • Awareness of information governance, data protection, and GDPR requirements.
  • Familiarity with digital asset management systems and physical archive handling.

Skills:

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative within agreed parameters.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly with databases, cataloguing software, and digital repositories.

Experience:

  • Experience working in an archive, heritage or records management setting.
  • Experience cataloguing physical and/or digital collections.
  • Experience developing or maintaining archive or digital asset management systems.
  • Experience of handling sensitive or confidential information with discretion.
  • Experience supporting public engagement, learning or interpretation activities using archive content.
  • Experience of responding to archive access requests and providing research support.
