Finance Director in Twickenham

Twickenham Full-Time No working from home possible
Royal Variety Charity

Few Finance Director opportunities combine more than a century of heritage, one of the most famous events in British entertainment, residential and nursing care, charitable support and the opportunity to help shape an organisation's next chapter.

Founded in 1908, the Royal Variety Charity supports people who have worked professionally in the entertainment industry when they need help most. At the heart of our work is Brinsworth House in Twickenham, providing residential and nursing care for up to 32 residents, alongside wider financial and practical support for people across the entertainment profession.

The Charity is also behind the Royal Variety Performance, bringing together some of the world's leading entertainers while raising vital funds for its charitable work.

Why this role, and why now?

The Royal Variety Charity is financially strong, with substantial reserves and investments, and its ambitions go far beyond protecting what previous generations have built.

We want to increase our impact, strengthen our long-term financial planning and ensure that our resources are deployed intelligently and sustainably.

Our new Finance Director will be central to that journey.

What is the role?

Reporting to the Treasurer and working closely with Trustees and senior colleagues, you will provide the financial insight and challenge behind some of the Charity's most important decisions.

This is an unusually broad role. As the Charity's sole finance professional, you will move comfortably between strategic and operational finance: developing long-term financial plans and advising Trustees on investments and reserves while remaining sufficiently hands-on to ensure the fundamentals of financial management are delivered exceptionally well.

You will lead on budgeting, forecasting, management and statutory reporting, cash flow, audit, investments, reserves, treasury, financial controls, risk and regulatory compliance.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for more than an excellent accountant. We want someone who can ask the right questions.

Someone who can make complex financial information understandable. Someone comfortable constructively challenging Trustees. Someone who sees opportunities as well as risks and understands the difference between financial prudence and unnecessary caution.

A qualified accountant with significant senior-level experience. A background within a charity, not-for-profit, healthcare, social care or another regulated environment would be particularly valuable.

Above all, you will be attracted by the opportunity to use your financial expertise somewhere it can make a tangible difference.
