Pierce Ward has an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join a friendly, supportive and experienced team covering maternity leave and help us to deliver high quality care to our orthopaedic patients.
Pierce is a trauma and orthopaedic ward that provides high quality care to our trauma orthopaedic patients. It is a busy, energetic place to work with a close team. Pierce Ward is proud to provide excellent care to patients from admission through to discharge. Staff work to our trust values which are -Everyone Matters, Making A Difference, and Working Together in all that they do.
The post will be fixed term for up to 1 year full time , and will provide the successful candidate with new skills, competence and development opportunities as well as the security of being part of a knowledgeable, supportive team.
We welcome both experienced and newly qualified nurses. Ideally you should be motivated, enthusiastic and keen to learn about orthopaedics.
Due to the nature of this role, we require candidates who apply to have current right to work in the UK.
Main duties of the job
To Work According To The NMC Code Of Professional Conduct And Relevant Professional Guidelines As a Named Nurse Or Key Worker (with Facilitation) For a Defined Group Of Patients And Take Responsibility For
- The assessment of care and health education needs
- The development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient
To Gain Experience And Skills In
- Clinical practice
- Facilitation and teaching
- Management (as appropriate
To work in accordance with the RUH Nursing Strategy and contribute towards achieving its objectives and maintain effective communication and participate in clinical supervision as appropriate and to teach and act as a facilitator/mentor/preceptor/ role model to less experienced staff.

- Registered Nurse with Nursing & Midwifery Council
- Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for own practice & behaviour.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Up to date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice at the level of a newly qualified nurse.
- Able to demonstrate effective consolidation of nursing Knowledge & practice after qualification & preceptorship
Desirable criteria
- Experience of trauma and orthopaedic nursing
