Our Intensive Care Unit has a dynamic, collaborative and effective MDT approach to patient care. The specialities that we manage include hepatobiliary, upper gastrointestinal, gynae-oncology, urology, maxilla-facial patients together with emergency medical and surgical admissions. We have our own patient gym to actively rehabilitate patients. Our pro-active research team co-ordinate the department’s involvement in a number of national trials.

As a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse, you will need to be an enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated individual who is passionate about providing high quality care to all. You will support staff to deliver safe, high quality and effective patient care that is responsive to the needs of our patients and their families, and be able to work well in a team. We will provide a dynamic environment for learning and professional development, supported by an enthusiastic Senior Management Team. The unit is responsive to speciality modernisation programmes at local network and national network levels. We offer an induction programme, supported by our clinical practice development facilitator.

Applicants Must Have:

  • A relevant first degree (undergraduate), or equivalent level of education and experience
  • ENB 100 or equivalent specialist critical care course qualification

Preferred:

  • An NMC Recognised Practice Supervisor Qualification

The post holder will deliver patient care on a daily basis. They should be expert in all areas of nursing care from patient’s admission to discharge, which facilitates clinical practice development. The post holder will be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient’s care, according to Trust policies and procedures maintaining associated records. They will deliver evidence based patient centred care, which is of a high standard. They will assist the senior sister in the management of staff including appraisal and supervision of learners. They will provide advice and support to patients, relatives and members of the multi-disciplinary team. Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching, they will monitor and improve standards of care by efficient and effective use of resources and liaise with the senior sister at all times. They will provide leadership on the Trust's values and behaviours.

To help provide a conducive working and learning environment, supporting and educating junior staff. To support the senior sister to promote evidence based nursing practice within the ward. The post holder will be expected to be actively involved in the provision of exemplary care within the department, in accordance with the Trust strategy and vision.
