We are seeking an experienced Regional Sales Manager to lead our EMEAI sales team while managing your own sales portfolio, delivering exceptional results across our journals, databases, books and magazine products in both academic and corporate markets. You will lead and inspire a geographically diverse team of Journals Sales Executives, Inside Sales staff and third-party partners to exceed revenue targets. You will develop and execute long-term sales strategies, manage key consortia relationships, and travel throughout the region to support your team and build client partnerships.

Responsibilities:
  • To work with Head of Global Sales to develop and manage business models for RSC publishing products to ensure annual revenue targets are achieved.
  • Provide guidance and leadership for Sales Executives in a large geographic and culturally diverse region.
  • Collaborate with cross functional groups throughout the organization, and be the voice of the EMEAI region within the sales team.
  • Oversee sales activity across your team and freelance agents, setting targets, managing budgets, and proactively coaching for performance improvement.
  • Develop and present annual EMEAI sales plan and quarterly forecast to senior sales management.
  • Identify opportunities for the organization to enter new markets and provide recommendations for sales implementation.
  • To work with the Head of Global Sales to analyse market needs and opportunities as well as comprehensive competitor analysis to ensure RSC delivers world-leading journal and database products and services.
  • Ownership of an individual sales territory or a dedicated customer group, with temporary assumption of direct customer responsibility during periods of absence such as vacation or maternity leave.
  • Directly responsible for achieving budgeted sales from customers for RSC's journal and database products within the territory.
  • To work extensively with publishing, marketing, finance and operations colleagues to develop new business opportunities and ensure activities are aligned to ensure revenue goals are met.
  • To oversee exhibitions attendance/activity within the territory to support sales and promotion of RSC.
  • To work with team to ensure adequate product and competitor knowledge to effectively sell to customers.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrate a broad range of functional and cultural knowledge, covering all aspects of STM publishing including journals and databases and associated technologies and sales strategies.
  • Experience in a managerial sales role is essential.
  • Experience in developing and successfully implementing sales strategies as well as associated coaching and development of sales staff.
  • Experience in management of a large and geographically located sales team.
  • Demonstrate experience of CRM tools, particularly Salesforce, to help reinforce sales processes and methodologies.
  • Cultural knowledge of the countries in the territory and ability to learn and adapt to new cultural challenges.
  • Be ambitious, imaginative, tenacious.
  • Ability to lead negotiations in complex and challenging situations.
  • Recognizes opportunities to proactively revisit existing contracts to maximize value for all stakeholders.
  • Understand differences in sales cycles and recommends appropriate actions for sales executives to manage opportunities accordingly.
  • Understanding of Open Access landscape and ability to analyse trends and make recommendations accordingly.

Our roles require fluency in English. German language skills are highly desirable, whether the position is based in Germany or in the UK.
