Internship Overview: Circa: Salary – 24,071.00 GBP annually. The Broadening Horizons intern will join the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) International Engagement team and contribute to the delivery of activities for the Pan Africa Chemistry Network (PACN). PACN strengthens chemical science capacity across Africa, supports researchers, and integrates African chemistry into the global scientific community. The 10‑week placement offers hands‑on experience working on an international programme, supporting a major scientific event, and contributing to the visibility and impact of a long‑standing capacity‑strengthening initiative in Africa.
Responsibilities:
- Refresh and update the PACN website: review outdated webpages, draft refreshed text, source current images, and collaborate with the RSC web team to implement content and structural updates.
- Create and implement a PACN promotional social media campaign: review existing assets, create new visual and written materials (LinkedIn posts, website content, short visual summaries), and further develop communication and social‑media skills.
- Support delivery of the PACN Congress: coordinate logistics for Early Career Chemists attending the Congress, manage communications, support workshop allocations, gather information for travel arrangements, and liaise with colleagues and the travel agent.
Qualifications:
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with varying deadlines.
- Excellent written communication skills, with an understanding of tailoring content for different audiences.
- Confidence using social media platforms (especially LinkedIn) to communicate professionally and promote scientific activities.
- Attention to detail, ensuring outputs are accurate and of a high standard.
