We are looking for a part-time Major Gifts Officer to support the Major Gifts team in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, securing and stewarding major gifts from individuals, focusing on gifts of £10,000 and above. You will achieve this through effective administration, prospect research, donor stewardship and reporting. This is a perfect opportunity for someone currently working in fundraising to take a step into specialising in Major Gifts in an Arts environment.

This position is offered as a part-time, permanent position, which can be based in either Stratford-upon-Avon or London. We are ideally looking for someone that can work 21 hours Monday to Wednesday, with 2 days working from the office.

The Development department works to achieve an income target of over £8 million annually through: corporates and learning partnerships; trusts, foundations and grants; and individual giving. £5 million comes from individuals – including major gifts, mid-level supporters, low level memberships, legacies and annual appeals.

Reporting to the Head of Major Gifts, key areas of responsibility include:

  • Working closely with another part-time Major Gifts Officer to provide proactive and responsive support to the team.
  • Drafting persuasive correspondence, documents and proposals on behalf of the team.
  • Researching and identifying potential supporters.
  • Planning solicitations and developing the prospect pipeline for the team.
  • Supporting the stewardship of major donors through ticket and hotel bookings, gift packages and arranging bespoke opportunities to meet artists and creatives.
  • Attending performances and events, representing the Development team with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Updating the database, proofreading documents and acknowledgements for major donors.

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have:

  • Previous experience of fundraising administration support in any type of organisation and an overall interest in fundraising.
  • First class administrative skills, with computer literacy and experience of MS Office programmes.
  • An active interest in the performing arts or literature.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels, including with external stakeholders and donors, to enable you to build positive working relationships.
  • Brilliant organisational skills and attention to detail, so that you can plan and check your work and meet deadlines.
  • A positive outlook, a commitment to delivering the highest levels of customer service and the capacity to work flexibly to meet multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.

This is a part-time role, working 21 hours over 3 or 4 days per week. As a theatre company, the RSC operates in the evenings and weekends, meaning occasional work outside of normal working hours is required. The RSC supports hybrid ways of working, with roles split between the home and office. The RSC's Development department is split between Stratford-upon-Avon and London and this role requires a minimum of two days a week in either office. The line manager is based in Stratford-upon-Avon.
