The predicted salary is between 31650 - 40000 Β£ per year.

To support the ongoing Matilda The Musical UK & Ireland Tour, we are looking for an experienced Deputy Head of Sound to join us from August 2026 until January 2027.

The Deputy Head of Sound will assist with the smooth running of the sound department throughout the tour, whilst maintaining the sound design of the production.

They will adapt to challenges, deputise for the Head of Sound as required and operate sound mixing for the production.

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have

  • Professional theatre experience relevant to this post.
  • An understanding and practical knowledge of the principles and safe working practices of touring truss, theatre rigging and sound systems.
  • Experience of Digico, QLab and Mainstage.
  • Experience of mixing large-scale West End musicals.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with other departments, the resident creative team and local crew.
  • An understanding of other theatre departments and resident creative team.
  • Excellent management and organisational skills.
  • Appropriate IT skills.
  • A Friendly and approachable manner.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work and the ability to work closely within a small team.

Applicants must have an understanding and practical knowledge of the principles and safe working practices in all areas of touring theatre.

This position is offered as a full time, fixed term, touring contract commencing part way through the tour in August 2026 and ending in January 2027.

There are 8 shows a week over six days (Tuesday to Sunday).
