Overview
To support the ongoing Matilda The Musical UK & Ireland Tour, we are looking for an experienced Head of LX to join us from July 2026 until January 2027.
The Head of LX will oversee all aspects of the lighting operation and ensure the production runs smoothly and consistently throughout the tour, adapting to challenges whilst maintaining the show’s original artistic vision.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage the lighting team on a touring or large‑scale theatrical environment, ensure compliance with lighting, electrical installation and rigging safety practices, collaborate with other theatre departments and the resident creative team, adapt to changing demands and deliver solutions in a fast‑paced touring environment.
Qualifications
- Professional theatre experience relevant to this post.
- Understanding and practical knowledge of principles and safe working practices of theatre lighting, electrical installation, and theatre rigging.
- Experience leading and managing a lighting team in a touring or large‑scale theatrical environment.
- Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding and appreciation of other theatre departments and the resident creative team.
- Ability to work collaboratively, adapt to changing demands and deliver solutions in a fast‑paced touring environment.
- Strong commitment to health and safety, including safe working practices when working at height.
- Appropriate IT skills, including Microsoft Office packages.
- Contract Details
The position is a full‑time fixed‑term touring contract, commencing part way through the tour and ending in January 2027.
There are eight shows a week over six days (Tuesday to Sunday).
All offers are conditional upon confirmation of right to work in the UK, suitable references, and satisfactory health profile.
The closing date for receipt of completed applications is midnight on 12 July 2026.
Interviews are expected to take place week commencing 13 July 2026.
