Based in: Covent Garden, London

The Royal Opera House Men's Costume Workroom team produces costumes for the Royal Ballet and the Royal Opera. We are seeking to recruit a Men's Workroom Assistant Manager/Cutter for a fixed 12-month contract (maternity cover). You will work under the line management of the Men's Workroom Manager/Cutter and assist in managing the activities and staff of the Men's Workroom, ensuring that all activities are carried out to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and quality.

You must be able to demonstrate:

  • A Theatrical Costume and Design course qualification to degree level, or comparable qualification or experience in a relevant craft skills area
  • A proven track record in craft skills workrooms with a production venue, or comparable film/TV experience
  • Extensive practical cutting and making experience and a sympathetic approach to creative concepts, and ability to realize them in practical terms
  • Able to accurately interpret design concepts from scale drawings and sketches and to assist in passing work onto the team
  • An excellent knowledge of costume fitting and alteration techniques
  • An excellent knowledge of modern and traditional methods of construction, period styles, and the history of costumes
