The Technical Project Engineer is a key member of the Royal Ballet and Opera (RBO) Estates & Facilities team, responsible for the planning, delivery, and technical oversight of critical infrastructure and lifecycle projects across the Covent Garden estate and associated properties.
This role ensures that engineering, building fabric, infrastructure, and compliance projects are delivered to the highest standards while safeguarding the operational continuity of a busy, world leading performance venue. The postholder will work closely with production, technical, front-of-house, and artistic teams to ensure that all works are coordinated sensitively around performances, rehearsals, and public activity.
The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, able to speak to both technical and non-technical staff. You will be proficient in project management software and documentation methods and have excellent organisational skills.
Qualifications
- A degree or equivalent qualification in engineering (mechanical, electrical, building services, or related).
- Significant experience delivering engineering, construction, or technical projects within live environments (theatres, arts venues, heritage estates, hospitals, education campuses, or similar).
- A strong understanding of building services engineering (mechanical, electrical, HVAC, controls, BMS, fire systems).
- Strong experience managing contractors and multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Ability to produce and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Demonstrable ability to work around strict operational constraints and high-profile events.
