Royal Norwich is seeking to appoint a proven and dynamic Golf Course Manager to lead our very capable greenkeeping team and manage to the highest standards our 24 holes of championship golf and extensive practice facilities.

Situated ten miles West of Norwich on the Weston Estate, Royal Norwich Golf Club is a stunning modern top 100 UK parkland golf club. Opened in 2019, the club was restructured in 2024 and is now under the control of a private investor who has secured its future.

The Club enjoys a 350-acre picturesque woodland site and is home to a championship standard 18 hole course and a 6 hole Academy Course all with USGA spec greens, built by the esteemed architect Ross McMurry. With c. 1,000 members across a range of flexible categories with an active youth golf programme c. 35,000 rounds were played on the course in 2024 with the aspiration to increase this in the years to come.

On site there is a state of the art Turfcare Centre that is second to none, ensuring all greenkeeping staff and our extensive fleet of greenkeeping equipment are looked after to the highest standards.

Reports to: Managing Director

Job Purpose: A Golf Course Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the golf course and the grounds around the club house, including maintenance, staff, and finances. They also ensure the course is safe and enjoyable for golfers.

Key Parameters: Budget over 250k/yearly, agronomy – fully responsible, Finance – fully responsible, Staff and asset management – fully responsible, Club rating Championship

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance: Plan and implement maintenance schedules for the course and equipment. This includes mowing, aeration, fertilizing, and other cultural requirements. Mechanical knowledge of golf course equipment and familiar with future developments within the industry, including GPS robotic technology.
  • Staff: 12+ member team, Recruit, train, and develop staff. This includes managing performance, appraisals, and conflict. Knowledge of HR in small teams.
  • Finances: Prepare and manage the budget, including purchasing supplies and equipment. Previous procurement and purchasing experience of golf course equipment and materials.
  • Safety: Conduct risk assessments and ensure the workplace is safe. A sound Health & Safety knowledge within the greenkeeping industry including chemical application/storage knowledge.
  • Operations: Plan, organize, and direct golf course operations. This includes managing meetings, communicating with staff, and providing briefings. General Estate/woodland management knowledge to include tree felling and crosscutting qualifications. Irrigation installation and repair knowledge. Experience in installing new projects would be an advantage. Golf Course project & construction experience within the following areas, greens, tees, bunkers, drainage, water storage and general small projects
  • Policies: Develop and implement policies and procedures for the course.
  • Improvements: Recommend improvements to the course and identify opportunities for development.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports on operations and activities.
  • Equipment: Maintain and repair equipment, and plan for replacements.

The Golf Course Manager needs to have excellent management skills, as well as technical, agronomic, and mechanical knowledge. They also need to be able to motivate staff and promote the organization\’s values. Deliver within budgets and deliver exceptional presentation of the course within line with safety and environmental requirements. Work collaboratively with the rest of the Senior Management Team to contribute the overall growth and prosperity of the club.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ in sports turf management level 2, sports turf management level 3 & ideally sports turf management/business management level 4 or degree level qualification
  • Pa1, Pa2 & Pa6a spraying qualifications
  • 3 years minimum experience in an equivalent role
