The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust (RNOH) has an exciting opportunity within the Specialist Hip and Knee Unit to appoint one full time (10 PAs) fixed term locum consultant surgeon to start as soon as possible, this will initially be an 8 month post.
This is a great time to join the RNOH, with a new theatre block opened in September 2023, significant quality improvement work in progress to reduce length of stay and improve pathways i.e. day case primary cases, now is a great time to join the Specialist Hip and Knee team to build your career within one of the top 10 world ranking leading specialised orthopaedic hospitals!
As part of the Specialist Hip and Knee Unit you will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive care and highly specialised surgical management. In addition, you will undertake audit, research and quality improvement work to ensure ongoing commitment to patient safety and clinical quality., The appointment is for a full time locum Consultant Surgeon in Specialist Hip & Knee.
The appointee will:

Be on a full time 10 PA job plan. There will be 8.5 Direct Clinical Care Programmed Activities sessions and 1.5 Supporting Programmed Activities (SPA). These will comprise of ward rounds, theatre sessions, planning meetings, procedures, MDTs and outpatient clinic appointments.

Provide in-patient and out-patient medical, surgical and rehabilitation care to patients.

The unit has a commitment to uphold our teaching element. The appointed consultant will play their full part in continuing and extending teaching within the unit

The new Consultant is expected to have a varied range of clinical interests to compliment the skills of the existing consultant team in the department, the development of which will be supported.

Job plans will be developed in partnership between the needs of the department and the successful applicant.

The post is at the grade of Consultant and will be appointed on the Terms and conditions of the new consultant contract agreed nationally.

The successful candidate will have access to a computer and office space. Clerical support is shared amongst the consultant body.
You are expected to be fellowship trained in hip and knee arthroplasty. We are looking for applicants who work well within a team and have relevant experience in the management of complex joint reconstruction of the hip and knee. You will also have good communication skills and experience in multidisciplinary team working. We aim to enable a sustainable service which is well governed, prioritises patient experience and focuses on patient outcomes and research.
