Working as part of a central team of 7, this role is to provide support and coordination to the RNLI Operations Room.
The role profile would typically support multiple teams within the Lifesaving Operations department and contribute to ongoing service improvements.
The support team work with several teams to take ownership of and complete work on their behalf., As this is a 6-month secondment, the scope will be reduced to support the Ops Room only.
This will allow you to settle into the role more quickly and provide greater support to you while you learn.
You will work with every member of the team on site, engaging with RNLI volunteers and staff, and providing a high level of support to the delivery of this key service., This is a great opportunity to develop and maintain a well-rounded knowledge of our operational teams and lifesaving services, along with developing some more specific expertise to provide guidance, coordination and support to volunteers, staff, external partners and members of the public.
In this role, you will work with the wider support team to
- Directly support the RNLI Operations Room; helping to provide this critical 24/7/365 function; taking and actioning calls from the coast, recording key information, providing reporting to the wider organisation and fulfilling a range of core tasks on their behalf.
- Learn all about our navigational aids, particularly the paper charts, to manage core functions and provide support and guidance to our Lifeboat Stations.
- Use a wide range of standard and bespoke IT systems; developing expertise across a range of applications in order to help maintain sites and systems and provide training and support to others.
- Spend a lot of time communicating with a wide range of people, providing excellent customer service and upholding both the reputation of the team internally as well as the RNLI's reputation externally.
- Work both independently and as part of a team; balancing the ability to use initiative and take full ownership of tasks with the ability to collaborate effectively and support colleagues to achieve broader objectives.
- Be incredibly flexible, adapting proactively and reactively to tasks as needed to meet priorities.
Quick thinking - it's a fast-paced environment so multitasking, working under pressure and being able to adjust accordingly is a must.
- Strong customer service and communication skills - we are people orientated.
- A proactive attitude; being highly motivated and passionate about delivering exceptional results.
- Strong IT skills, particularly MS Office and/or a natural aptitude in this area.
- A pragmatic approach to finding solutions and completing tasks.
