Eye Care Liaison Officer in Watford

We are seeking an enthusiastic and professional individual to join our team as an Eye Care Liaison Officer (ECLO). This role is rewarding but can be challenging, as ECLOs support people through some of the hardest moments of their lives: fear, grief, adjustment, uncertainty.

You will also be juggling multiple workstreams – patient support, clinical relationships, admin, data, reporting – and the proactive promotion of the ECLO service. You will thrive in a fast‑paced dynamic environment, responding effectively to immediate demands while staying organised and forward‑focused with long‑term tasks. The right person will be able to provide steady, compassionate support while still moving forward with practical next steps.

What You’ll Do Responsibilities

• Provide vital information, guidance and emotional support to patients and their families or carers within busy clinical settings.
• Support individuals through their eye care pathway, including signposting and referring to local and national services, and advocating for their needs across health and social care systems.
• Build strong, effective relationships with clinicians, social care teams and partner organisations to deliver joined‑up, multi‑agency support.
• Work confidently within emotionally intense situations, using empathy, compassion and excellent communication skills.
• Manage multiple reactive and proactive workstreams, including patient support, administration, data entry, reporting and service promotion, balancing fast‑moving daily demands with longer‑term priorities.
• Work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to seamless patient support.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable empathy, compassion and exceptional communication skills.
• Experience in a healthcare, social care or support role (desirable).
• Ability to work independently, under pressure and managing competing priorities.
• Strong organisational, problem‑solving and prioritisation skills.
• Excellent administrative skills, including the ability to manage multiple CRM systems across NHS, RNIB and Microsoft 365 environments.
