The Dormant Distillery Company operates one of the world’s leading whisky specialist retailers and wholesalers, Royal Mile Whiskies. Founded in 1998, the company also runs a specialist tobacconist on the Royal Mile - The Cigar Box - and, in 2011, opened specialist drinks retail shops in Edinburgh and Pitlochry under the Drinkmonger brand, with the vision of providing Scotland’s most comprehensive range of quality alcohol products. The Role
The Marketing Officer will report to the Marketing Manager and work closely with Profit Centre Heads across the business with a primary focus on Retail, Trade and Events. This role supports the delivery of brand-led marketing activity that builds awareness, reputation and engagement for our physical retail shops, trade business and flagship events. While the focus is on brand presence/building, partnerships and community-building, all marketing activity is commercially mindful to support growth. This is a hands-on creative role, suited to someone who enjoys being involved in day-to-day execution (creating content, managing social channels and supporting campaigns) while also contributing ideas and developing partnerships that drive footfall, trade engagement and event awareness.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior Marketing colleagues to support the development and delivery of integrated marketing plans aligned with wider business goals, with particular focus on Retail, Trade and Events profit centres.
- Deliver marketing activity that builds brand awareness and engagement, including campaigns to:
- Drive footfall to physical retail stores
- Support Trade initiatives and increase B2B account growth
- Increase awareness and ticket sales for flagship events
Skills & Experience
- 2 - 4 years’ experience in a marketing or communications role
- Experience creating, scheduling and managing social media content for brands
- Strong copywriting skills for social, email or campaign content with a clear understanding of tone of voice and audience.
- Confident capturing product photography and short-form video using a camera or smartphone
- Comfortable working across multiple projects and stakeholders in a hands-on role
- Organised, proactive and able to manage day-to-day marketing activity and multiple deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work
- Basic understanding of marketing performance metrics (engagement, reach, email stats)
- A collaborative approach, happy working with multiple stakeholders, teams and colleagues across the business.
- Experience supporting retail, hospitality, events or B2B marketing
- Experience working with influencers, partnerships, local collaborations or PR-style outreach
- Basic design skills (e.g. Canva/Adobe) and simple video editing for reels/shorts
- Experience using social media scheduling or content management tools
- Understanding of whisky, wines and premium spirits (or a genuine interest and willingness to learn fast).
Additional info, salary and benefits
This is a permanent, full-time post. We are offering a starting salary of £30,000. Our office hours are 09:00 to 17:30, Monday to Friday. Some additional evening and weekend work may be required to meet key trading periods, ad hoc events and deadlines. Flexible working is available. Staff have the opportunity for training (e.g, WSET) and attending industry events and festivals. We offer an enhanced maternity/paternity package, childcare payments for under 3s, increased annual leave allowance after 3 years of service and a workplace pension.
