We’re looking for a passionate storyteller to join us at Mencap as a Stories & Voices Lead, championing inclusive and ethical storytelling across all our campaigns and communications. This role is a full time 37.5 hours (per week) permanent position. If you’re organised, creative, and passionate about inclusion, this is your chance to help change attitudes and break down barriers.

Here at Mencap we understand that some of our office based colleagues can do their role from a range of locations, which is why we like to be flexible. Travel is required to the office in London and other UK locations, depending on storytelling needs.

You’ll lead how we find and share stories from people with a learning disability, their families, and support networks. You’ll make sure stories shape our campaigns, fundraising, and media work, to have real impact. You’ll manage a small team, build relationships with ambassadors and influencers, and make sure every story is told with dignity.

We are challenging the way the UK understands learning disability and are paving the way for even more impactful change to the way learning disability is portrayed in the media.

What will you bring?

  • Experience of managing people and projects.
  • Experience of working on charity communications campaigns.
  • Experience of using databases to effectively manage stories, approvals, consent, etc.
  • Highly skilled at building relationships with a variety of people including but not limited to; people with lived experience and those with a significant public profile, whilst maintaining clear professional boundaries.
  • Passionate about inclusive and ethical storytelling, with experience managing consent for communications.
