If so, we might have the perfect opportunity for you as our Property Compliance Officer at Mencap.
Mencap is looking for a dedicated Property Compliance Officer to join our team and play a key role in ensuring our environments are safe, compliant and fit for purpose. You’ll help make sure our residential, retail and office properties meet all relevant legal and regulatory standards, supporting safe spaces for the people we support, as well as our colleagues and volunteers. This is a part‑time (22.5 hours per week), permanent job‑share role, with flexible work location options.
Strong communication skills are essential, as you’ll work closely with a wide range of stakeholders across Mencap, as well as external partners, to ensure our properties remain safe and suitable for tenants, staff and volunteers.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure properties meet all legal, health & safety, and compliance standards
- Coordinate reactive and quoted works with contractors and site teams
- Identify, assess and elevate repair and compliance risks
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs and certifications
- Liaise with landlords, housing associations, contractors and internal teams
- Ensure value for money in repairs and challenge contractors where required
- Support and deputise for the Property Manager, including stakeholder engagement
- Prepare compliance and repairs data for reporting purposes
- Stay up to date with legislation and regulatory changes, advising colleagues accordingly
- Monitor KPIs and elevate underperformance
- Take responsibility for one or more compliance areas, such as Gas, Legionella, Asbestos, EICRs or Fire Systems
- Analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to manage complex workloads and meet deadlines
- Confidence working with a wide range of stakeholders
- Clear, effective and professional communicator
- Self‑motivated, organised and proactive
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in property repairs and/or compliance
- Knowledge of building maintenance legislation and procedures
- Experience working with housing providers or housing associations
- Strong data analysis and report‑writing skills
- Customer‑focused approach with a commitment to resident involvement
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, supporting people with learning disabilities
- Experience in a values‑driven organisation is desirable
