Mencap Volunteer Visitor (Based in Pocklington, York)
Do you enjoy a warm cuppa and a good browse through charity shops? We’re looking for a friendly, reliable volunteer to spend time with an adult with a learning disability—sharing simple outings like visiting a local café and exploring nearby charity shops together.
This is a lovely opportunity to build a meaningful connection, boost someone’s confidence, and help them feel more included in their community.
Why we want you:
The Mencap visiting service provides visitors for adults with a learning disability. The people we visit all enjoy different things so each visit will be unique. Your time, skills and passion will ensure everyone registered has a visitor they can spend 1 to 1 time with doing the things they enjoy. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around a couple of hours, sometimes shorter or longer, depending on what you plan to do. We\’d love to hear from you!
What you will be doing:
- Visiting the person you are matched with every other month, spending quality time together. The type of activities you’ll be doing will vary depending on the person you visit but you could:
- Checking in on their well-being
- Sitting with the person and have a chat
- Enjoy a walk
The skills you need:
- Passionate about supporting people with a learning disability
- Reliable and patient
- Good communication Skills
- Accepting of others who might be different to yourself
- Friendly and approachable
