Example of shift times are 07:00am-14.30pm, 14.30pm – 22:00pm. Our Rotas are organised 4 weeks in advance so you can plan your social life well ahead.

Our Service & The People We Support
Are you a person who likes variety in their work, knowing each day will be different to the last? Our Bishopthorpe service is a six bed bungalow, supporting two females and four males between the ages of 25-80 years of age. They require a patient staff team who are enthusiastic, caring and compassionate.
The people we support at our service all lead very sociable lives. They love to go out into the community regularly and enjoy day trips out.
The people we support are very creative and enjoy arts and crafts sessions daily, all of their hard work is displayed around the home. The people we support choose a range of activities they enjoy being involved in. Some typical examples are trips out to the seaside to enjoy some fish and chips, days out to the cinema and theatre as they love musicals, going to the farm and the zoo as they have a love for animals. We also have one particular person who has a passion for trains.
What does a Support Worker do?
Working for Mencap you will be expected to provide an outstanding service that provides a more comfortable, dignified, liberated and happy life for the people we support.
- Personal care – Will need support to get ready for the day –I.e. Showering, Dressing, Medication administration.
- Supporting people to live independently – budget management, shopping, house work, organising appointments and cooking healthy meals.
- Excellent communication skills/relationship building – supporting the person to understand the world around them and promoting positive relationships.
- Community & Social Inclusion- supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.
