We’re looking for a passionate storyteller to join us at Mencap as a Stories & Content Officer, helping to place people with lived experience at the heart of everything we do. This role is a permanent, full-time 37.5 hours (per week) role.

In this role, you’ll meet people with a learning disability and those close to them to capture their experiences. You'll use your journalistic instincts to craft powerful, authentic stories. These stories will help raise awareness, challenge perceptions, and show the real impact of Mencap’s work. There will be occasional travel (approx. 1–2 days per month) within the UK required for this role.

We are challenging the way the UK understands learning disability and are paving the way for even more impactful change to the way learning disability is portrayed in the media. You’ll join a dynamic, committed communications team working to educate the public and influence policy, while amplifying the voices of people with a learning disability.

What will you bring?

  • Experience of interviewing and communicating personal stories
  • Ability to produce engaging content, from writing impactful copy for the web, to recording basic videos or creating simple graphics.
  • Familiarity with relevant software and tools.
  • Some experience working with people with learning disabilities and/or additional needs (desirable).

£26,228 per annum, pro-rata + excellent benefits
