Information and Advice Event Volunteer (Learning Disability Helpline)

The Learning Disability Helpline in England is available to people with a learning disability, their families and carers. As part of this service, the helpline offers awareness raising events in the community. This may involve, external organisations, Mencap projects or members of the public.

As an Events Volunteer you will help change people’s attitudes towards learning disability. Mencap wants to speak alongside people with a learning disability, rather than for them. This volunteering role is flexible, and the number of events will vary each month. The caseworkers will give you plenty of notice to plan for the event.

We especially encourage applications from people with a learning disability for this role. The caseworker will discuss transport to and from the venue with you before each session.

What will I be doing?

  • You will support the caseworker to deliver Learning Disability Awareness sessions online and face to face, this will include promoting helpline projects
  • You will take an active part in events
  • You will support the caseworker with welcoming participants
  • You will help with discussions and eventually introduce and lead on some activities
