Are you passionate about health and wellbeing? Do you want to help us improve health and wellbeing for people with a learning disability? We are recruiting for 5 Healthier Me Champions to join our exciting new Healthier Me programme at Mencap. The Healthier Me programme wants to improve health and wellbeing for and with people with a learning disability.
As a Healthier Me Champion you will work in your local area with your manager, the Healthier Me Coach, or Regional Community Engagement Lead. You might be asked to do some work at home. This is a job opportunity for a person with a learning disability. This job is for a minimum of 4 hours per month with extra hours paid when needed. Please note that your working days may vary, and the work hours may change from week to week. Some weeks you will work more hours, and others you will work less. Your manager will plan your working days and hours with you in advance. This role is a part‑time fixed term contract until end of December 2027. The hourly pay rate is £12.21.
What You Will Do
- Encourage people with a learning disability to be more healthy.
- Work towards your own health goal and share your journey.
- Help people with a learning disability and their support staff understand more about eating healthy food, being active, and mental health.
- Help local groups to become more accessible for people with a learning disability.
- Meet people and talk about the Healthier Me work.
- Help your manager – the Healthier Me Coach – to run training sessions and meetings.
- Join online meetings with other Healthier Me Champions around the UK to share your ideas and experiences and listen to others.
- Be Positive, Kind, Inclusive, Brave and Passionate in everything you do.
Your work will make positive changes – making the community a better place for everyone.
