The Royal Marsden Hospital is one of Europe’s largest Oncology centres and was the world’s first hospital dedicated to cancer research, diagnosis, treatment and education, with sites in Chelsea, Sutton and Cavendish Square London. The Diagnostic Cross sectional Imaging service provides an essential service to the Trust, including whole body and high quality oncology imaging, Mammography including large field and interventional procedures, Ultrasound as well as general X-Ray, IR, fluoroscopy and theatres.

Our partnership with The Institute of Cancer Research and other key organisations means we offer access to the newest clinical trials and clinical trials of novel anti-cancer agents, all imaging modalities are fundamental to this process and forefront techniques and protocols are constantly being evolved within Radiology.

We are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic mammography trained radiographers for a band 7 core mammographer 12 months fixed term post at the Sutton site. Applicants will have significant post graduate experience and post graduate certificate in mammography. The successful candidate should be an innovative, highly motivated radiographer with good communication skills, who is keen to contribute positively to the expanding breast service.

Main duties of the job:
  • The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of an efficient and effective Diagnostic Breast Imaging Service.
  • She will liaise with the clinicians in charge of a patient, with ward and other departmental staff within the multi-disciplinary team.
  • The post holder will be required to work in the Rapid Diagnostic Assessment Centre (RDAC) on the Sutton site.
  • While working within an oncological environment the post holder will be required to interact directly with terminally ill patients as well as being exposed at times to distressing and emotional situations.
  • The post holder will have responsibility for the timely, efficient and courteous provision of imaging services within the available resources.
  • The post holder will uphold the highest standards in mammography and will work with the Superintendent breast/x-ray Radiographer to facilitate the training and support of radiographers on rotation through the Rapid Diagnostic and Assessment Centre (RDAC) in mammography.
  • The post holder will also be expected to deputise for the modality Superintendent Radiographer when necessary.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
  • To provide a high-quality diagnostic imaging service.
  • To comply with accurate patient identification procedures.
  • To perform imaging examinations within The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) and Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) guidelines while adhering to local radiation protection guidelines.
  • To perform and maintain high Mammography imaging standards and image review.
  • To give advice to patients and clinicians regarding the preparation required for specialised imaging examinations and to gain verbal/written consent from patients undergoing imaging examinations/intravenous contrast administration.
  • To have a good knowledge of and be able to apply responsibly departmental wound management techniques for post interventional procedures and to give advice on aftercare.
Person specification:Education/Qualifications:
  • State registration DCR/BSc in Radiography
  • Post graduate experience in Mammography
  • Post Graduate certificate in Mammography
  • Cannulation certificate or Completed workbook
Experience:
  • Evidence of good organisation and communication
  • Evidence of leadership and team building
  • Experience in supervision of diagnostic radiographer staff in Mammography
Skills Abilities/Knowledge:
  • Ability to express themselves clearly in English
