Bud Flanagan Ambulatory Inpatients (AMBIN) is a highly specialised haemato‑oncology transplant day unit delivering inpatient‑level treatments within an outpatient setting. We care for patients undergoing supportive therapies, systemic anti‑cancer treatments, and cellular therapy administration.
About the Role
We are seeking a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join a friendly and dedicated team. You will deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care to complex haematology‑oncology patients, work proactively in a fast‑paced environment, communicate effectively with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team, support service development, and demonstrate commitment to professional development.
Main duties of the job
- Plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence‑based nursing care for patients in partnership with the shift coordinator.
- Develop awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the treatment modalities used within the unit.
- Manage shift responsibilities and work under guidance of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.
- Complete first‑level assessment of patient needs, including physiological, psycho‑social, spiritual and cultural aspects.
- Assist with patient teaching for investigations, treatment and home care.
- Monitor treatment side effects and implement problem‑solving approaches to minimise adverse reactions.
- Perform skilled specialised nursing tasks (e.g. wound dressings, drain removal, urinary catheter insertion) under supervision until competent.
- Understand and follow protocols for patients undergoing clinical trials and hospital policies.
Qualifications
- Registration as a nurse.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
- Qualification in oncology or a related speciality.
- Diploma or degree level study (or equivalent).
- Recognised teaching qualification.
Experience
- Experience in intravenous drug administration.
- Post‑registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality sufficient for confidence and competence in required skills.
- Experience with chemotherapy administration.
- Experience in clinical management.
- Evidence of relevant teaching experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of clinical trials management.
Skills and Abilities
- Venepuncture and/or cannulation skills.
- Effective negotiating and influencing skills.
- Ability to lead a team and motivate others.
