We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Nursery Practitioner to care for the children of staff at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. We require a reliable, flexible member of the team showing initiative and commitment. An ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form will be essential. Applicants must have a minimum Level 3 qualification in Childcare and Education and level A-C in GCSE English. In addition you should have experience of working effectively with a staff team in full day care.

Main duties of the job

To be a reliable member of the team, working to provide a positive environment, fostering children’s all‑round development. Maintaining high standards of care for the children who use the nursery at all times.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To work in partnership with other team members, providing support and assistance in all areas of the nursery as necessary.
  • To provide excellent care and education to children within the area of work.
  • To plan and implement activities/experiences which are appropriate to children’s needs and stages of development, using the EYFS curriculum and OFSTED guidelines.
  • To work with OFSTED and the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and Early Childhood Environment Rating (ECERS). Work with the team to carry out a termly audit of the provision.
  • To have a good awareness of children’s individual/group needs, and a good understanding of childcare issues and child development.

Person specification

Education/Qualifications

  • Level 3 Childcare and Education qualification e.g., NVQ3, BTEC etc equivalent childcare courses (must meet the early years educator criteria and be approved by Ofsted)
  • Relevant level 2 Qualification in Numeracy (if level 3 is post 2014)
  • Relevant level 2 Qualification in Literacy (if level 3 is post 2014)
  • Early years Foundation Stage training
  • First Aid certificate.
  • Working towards a higher-level qualification

Experience

  • Significant experience of working with children in a nursery setting, with children aged 3 months – 5 years
  • Good all‑round knowledge of child development and childcare practices for children aged 0-5 years. Good knowledge of the EYFS
  • Awareness of children’s needs
  • Awareness of the Health & Safety of children’s environment.
  • Experience of working with a team
  • An ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form will be essential
  • Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
  • An understanding of child development, children’s needs and behaviour in children under five.

Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the utmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient‑facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
