The Royal Marsden Hospital is Europe's largest Oncology centre with sites in Chelsea and Sutton. The Department of Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT and Radioisotope Therapy is currently inviting enthusiastic applicants, well-motivated, capable and organised individuals to join our friendly and dynamic team. The successful candidate must be an individual with a friendly, welcoming attitude and have excellent administration skills with an eye for detail. The candidate will undertake a key role in delivery of our Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT service. Applicants would benefit from experience in a hospital or healthcare environment and must be able to work independently and accurately under pressure to meet deadlines. The successful candidate must be able to interact with staff and patients in a polite and confident manner, and will take an ongoing, proactive role in improving the service of our Department. There will be a need to demonstrate a commitment to professional development, an enthusiasm for their work and show a keen interest in the future of both their profession and the Diagnostic Imaging Service. They will be expected to support the service in continuing to maintain and develop the highest standards of imaging.
Main duties of the job:
- The post holder is an integral member of the Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT Department.
- The post holder will coordinate all administrative aspects of the Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT Services including patient communication, reception, scheduling and clerical duties.
- Ensuring that appointments are scheduled in an efficient and timely manner, so that results can be made available to fit with the patient’s pathway.
- The post holder will also be required to oversee the retrieval of patients’ imaging and reports from external Trusts where required.
- The post holder will also provide cover for the Radiology/Nuclear Medicine PET/CT Chelsea reception desk and will be required to handle enquiries from patients, their carers and Trust and non-Trust staff in person or by telephone/post.
- The post-holder will liaise with a variety of staff throughout the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
- To co-ordinate the bookings on multiple gamma cameras ensuring that examinations are booked on the appropriate system.
- To liaise with radiopharmacy staff to ensure that non-standard radiopharmaceuticals are ordered in sufficient time for patient attendances.
- To schedule all appointments in Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT in line with local guidelines and protocols.
- To plan scanning appointments and camera capacity efficiently, having consideration for a range of influencing factors such as the availability of staff, lead times for ordering of radiopharmaceuticals etc.
- To plan ahead and to reschedule workload when necessary, to ensure that scanner capacity is optimally utilised.
- To reschedule appointments for patients whose scan has been cancelled or delayed.
- To ensure that all necessary pre-scan checks and tests have been completed prior to the patient arriving for their scan.
- To handle all enquiries, in person or by telephone in a polite and confident manner, referring callers to the appropriate staff when unable to help.
- To ensure the timely production of all Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT reports for verification.
- To ensure the timely accessibility of verified reports on the RIS /ICW system.
- To ensure that all relevant documentation is available for Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT staff as required.
- To input data into the RIS system as required.
Person specification:
- Education to GCSE standard or equivalent.
- Ability to use booking and IT systems.
- Experience in typing and data entry.
- Experience in using a Hospital Information System.
- Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English.
- Ability to produce accurate work in a timely fashion.
- Ability to prioritise workload with minimal supervision.
- Experience of working with a variety of staff.
- Previous receptionist experience.

- Calm under pressure.
- Flexible, polite and friendly.
- Able to work on own initiative and problem solve when necessary.
- Experience of working in the National Health Service.
