Join the Clinical Genomics department at the Royal Marsden where you will play a key role in supporting the education and training needs of staff in a cutting‑edge clinical genomics environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and monitor education, training and engagement programmes.
  • Organise and schedule training seminars on key genomic medicine topics including Cancer, Haematological Malignancy and Rare Disease.
  • Ensure the departmental training policy is regularly reviewed and maintained.
  • Work closely with Operational Managers and the Scientist Training Lead to develop, deliver and maintain educational programmes for staff across the department.
  • Manage training documentation, coordinate seminars and ensure training meets accreditation standards such as ISO 15189.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • BSc degree in Biological Sciences or Genetics.
  • Post‑graduate qualification in education or training, or equivalent experience.
  • Post‑graduate qualification in a relevant scientific subject.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Detailed knowledge of training delivery in a diagnostic laboratory; knowledge of education and training theory and practice.
  • Understanding of the principles of genomics and its role in patient pathways.
  • Experience of training others and supervising trainees.
  • Knowledge of the different routes to HCPC Registration as a Clinical Scientist and Biomedical Scientist.
  • Experience of developing and implementing policies and procedures, with emphasis on training and education, or experience in project management.
  • Experience of working in a clinical genomics laboratory or delivering training in a relevant field.

  • Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate complex information both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Accurate record keeping with attention to detail.
  • Ability to use in‑house IT systems, Microsoft software or equivalent.
  • Ability to take specific responsibilities in an area of defined specialist knowledge.
  • Team‑working skills, able to work effectively across diverse groups.
  • Ability to seek out, establish and maintain networks and contacts.

Other:

  • Able to understand and follow SOPs.
  • Full understanding of all laboratory H&S procedures.
  • Ability to take corrective and preventive actions for non‑compliances.
  • Evidence of personal development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of UKAS standards.
