You will join a well-established, close-knit multidisciplinary team that prides itself on providing exceptional patient care in a supportive and inclusive environment. The unit works closely with the Outpatients Sisters and wider outpatient teams to ensure a seamless patient journey.

This is a daytime service and does not operate a 24-hour rota. The successful candidate will work 7.5-hour shifts, 3 days per week. While permanent flexible working arrangements cannot be guaranteed, we are committed to supporting work-life balance wherever possible. Typical start times vary between 8:00am and 11:00am depending on service requirements.

The role offers exposure to a wide range of clinical activities, including the assessment and management of patients attending for rapid diagnostic investigations and treatment. You will support patients at various stages of their diagnostic and treatment journey, undertake procedure assessments, and assist with a variety of diagnostic and minor surgical procedures.

We are looking for a qualified Registered Nurse with experience working within an acute hospital setting. The successful candidate will be flexible, organised, and a strong team player with a genuine commitment to patient-centred care. Candidates should be competent in venepuncture, and possess sound surgical nursing skills relevant to a procedural and diagnostic environment.

This role would suit a nurse who enjoys working in a fast-paced clinical setting, is keen to expand their knowledge of cancer care and urology services, and values working as part of a supportive team dedicated to delivering excellent patient outcomes.

To be aware of the side effects of any treatment in progress, and adopt a problem-solving approach to minimise the potentially adverse reactions. Be involved in the direct delivery of skilled specialised nursing care with supervision until competent, e.g. wound dressings, removal of drains, and insertion of urinary catheters. To develop an awareness of the protocols involved for patients undergoing clinical trials. To be aware of all hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with other health care professionals to ensure that these are observed. To be rostered as part of the ward to care for patients over a 24 hr period. Have frequent exposure to body fluids, odours and infections and ensure that personal protective equipment is used as required, adhering to Trust policies in relation to Health and Safety and Infection Control. Be involved in the collection of samples for diagnostic testing, e.g. urine collection and sputum collection.

Education

  • NMC registration
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Qualification in oncology or speciality Diploma or Degree level study (or equivalent)
  • Recognised teaching qualification

Experience

  • Experience in intravenous drug administration
  • Sufficient post registration nursing experience in oncology or speciality to be confident and competent in using the required skills to do the job
  • Experience in chemotherapy administration
  • Experience in Clinical Management
  • Evidence of relevant teaching experience

  • Evidence of effective interpersonal skills with particular ability to liaise with multidisciplinary team members

Flu Vaccination – What We Expect of our Staff At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease. The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
